GOOGLE ADS FOR LONG ISLAND BUSINESSES
Google Ads getting clicks but no inquiries?
People are clicking your ads, but your inbox is quiet. Before you spend more, check what happens between the search and the inquiry.
Start with a real test of your form
Open the page on your phone and submit a test inquiry. Does it send successfully? Does the message actually reach the right inbox? Check the confirmation screen and your spam folder too.
Then check the tracking. A click on “Contact us” is not the same as a completed inquiry. If Google Ads reports conversions but you have no messages, make sure it is measuring the action you intended. Google’s guide to website conversions explains the setup options.
Look at what people searched
Your keyword list tells you what you wanted to target. The search terms report helps show what people actually searched before seeing or clicking your ads.
For example, a Long Island painter looking for cabinet refinishing inquiries may also attract people searching for painting jobs or DIY instructions. Those visitors have a different goal. Review the available searches and exclude clearly irrelevant ones with negative keywords. Avoid blocking a word so broadly that you lose useful searches too. See Google’s search terms guidance.
Check your service area
If you serve Nassau and Suffolk, check both the locations selected and the location options. Google’s default can include people who have shown interest in a place, even if they are elsewhere.
For a business that needs nearby customers, “Presence” targeting may be a better fit. It focuses on people likely in or regularly in your chosen area. Location signals are not perfectly accurate, so review the results rather than assuming the setting solves everything. Compare Google’s location options.
Make the next step obvious
If your ad promises a particular service, the page should immediately explain that service, where you provide it and how someone can inquire. Use real project photos or useful business details to help visitors decide whether you are a fit.
Try the page with one hand on a phone. Is the text readable? Is the form easy to complete? Does the visitor know what will happen after they submit? Ask for the information you actually need to respond, without turning a first inquiry into a long questionnaire.
Judge inquiries, not just clicks
Keep a simple record of genuine inquiries, what people wanted and which became customers. A campaign can produce plenty of clicks and still attract the wrong work.
Also consider the sample size. A few clicks without an inquiry are not enough to diagnose a campaign. Set a test budget and a review point you can afford, then make changes based on the traffic and inquiry quality you actually see.
